What is a gel battery?

gel battery is a developmental classification of lead-acid battery by adding gelling agent to sulfuric acid to make the sulfuric acid electrolyte into a colloidal state. A battery with a gelled electrolyte is usually called a gel battery.

The difference between gel battery and conventional lead-acid battery is further developed from the initial understanding of electrolyte gelling to the research of electrochemical characteristics of electrolyte basic structure and the promotion of application in the plate grid and active substance.

Its most important characteristics are: with smaller industrial cost, it can produce higher quality gel battery with flat discharge curve and high inflection point, and its energy and power are more than 20% larger than conventional lead-acid batteries.

Broadly speaking, the difference between gel battery and conventional lead-acid batteries does not only lie in the change of electrohydraulic liquid to colloidal form.

For example, aqueous colloids in the non-solidified state are the same as gel battery in terms of electrochemical classification structure and characteristics. Another example is the attachment of polymer materials in the plate grid, commonly known as ceramic plate grid, which can also be regarded as the application characteristics of gel battery.

Advantages: it does not produce the industrial problems common to colloidal batteries, the manufacturing process is exactly the same as that of acid batteries, the capacity is increased by 5-15% after use, the battery life is extended by 50-100%, the resistance to sulfation of the pole plate is strong, and the corrosion force on the plate grid is much smaller after sulfuric acid modification. The price is also cheaper than conventional colloid.

After using water-based colloid additives, there is no need to add sodium sulfate and phosphoric acid to sulfuric acid. Standard additive amount: 8% by volume.

Correct charging method for gel battery

Don’t wait for the power of the gel battery to run out before charging, you should charge it in time after discharging. Try to use a good quality charger for the gel battery, which will help to improve the service life of the gel battery.

The gel battery should be fully charged and stored in a cool and dry place, not near the heat source and not in direct sunlight. Stored for more than a month before use should be recharged, stored for more than three months should do a deep charge put.
