O processo envolve duas fases: descarga e carga.<\/p><p>Durante a descarga, o l\u00edtio met\u00e1lico sofre oxida\u00e7\u00e3o, libertando electr\u00f5es e formando i\u00f5es de l\u00edtio (Li\u207a), que migram para o c\u00e1todo. Estes i\u00f5es reagem com enxofre (S\u2088) para produzir polissulfuretos de l\u00edtio (Li\u2082Sn, n=4~8). \u00c0 medida que a descarga continua, os polissulfuretos de l\u00edtio s\u00e3o ainda mais reduzidos a sulfureto de l\u00edtio (Li\u2082S\u2082 e Li\u2082S). A diferen\u00e7a de potencial gerada durante este processo fornece a sa\u00edda de energia da bateria.<\/p><p>Por outro lado, durante o carregamento, uma tens\u00e3o externa inverte a rea\u00e7\u00e3o. O sulfeto de l\u00edtio (Li\u2082S\u2082 e Li\u2082S) \u00e9 oxidado de volta ao enxofre (S\u2088), e o l\u00edtio met\u00e1lico \u00e9 redepositado. A sua condutividade eletr\u00f3nica extremamente baixa (5,0\u00d710-\u00b3\u2070 S-cm-\u00b9) limita severamente o desempenho de alta taxa das baterias Li-S.<\/p><p><strong>O \"Efeito Vaiv\u00e9m\"<\/strong>: Os polissulfuretos de l\u00edtio (Li\u2082Sn, n=3~8) produzidos durante a descarga dissolvem-se no eletr\u00f3lito org\u00e2nico e migram para o \u00e2nodo, causando reac\u00e7\u00f5es parasitas. Este \"efeito de vaiv\u00e9m\" leva \u00e0 perda de material ativo, \u00e0 redu\u00e7\u00e3o da efici\u00eancia energ\u00e9tica e \u00e0 diminui\u00e7\u00e3o do ciclo de vida.<\/p><p><strong>Descarga Deposi\u00e7\u00e3o de produtos<\/strong>: Durante o ciclo, o Li\u2082S e outros produtos de descarga depositam-se na superf\u00edcie da estrutura condutora ou desprendem-se completamente, causando um desvanecimento irrevers\u00edvel da capacidade.<\/p><p><strong>Expans\u00e3o\/Contra\u00e7\u00e3o de Volume<\/strong>: A diferen\u00e7a significativa de densidade entre o enxofre (2,07 g\/cm\u00b3) e o sulfureto de l\u00edtio (1,66 g\/cm\u00b3), que resulta numa altera\u00e7\u00e3o de volume de at\u00e9 79% durante os ciclos de carga-descarga, danifica a estrutura do c\u00e1todo, levando \u00e0 separa\u00e7\u00e3o do enxofre da estrutura condutora e a uma maior degrada\u00e7\u00e3o do desempenho.
