O seu funcionamento baseia-se na intera\u00e7\u00e3o entre os electr\u00f5es e a mat\u00e9ria em estudo.<\/p><p>A superf\u00edcie da amostra de material de bombardeamento de feixe de electr\u00f5es de alta energia, a superf\u00edcie da amostra produzir\u00e1 electr\u00f5es de retrodifus\u00e3o, electr\u00f5es secund\u00e1rios, fluoresc\u00eancia eletr\u00f3nica, vis\u00edvel, raios-X e raios-X cont\u00ednuos, electr\u00f5es de transmiss\u00e3o e na \u00e1rea de luz vis\u00edvel, ultravioleta, infravermelha de radia\u00e7\u00e3o electromagn\u00e9tica, etc., atrav\u00e9s destes sinais, pode obter a organiza\u00e7\u00e3o microsc\u00f3pica, morfologia, composi\u00e7\u00e3o qu\u00edmica, estrutura cristalina e campo el\u00e9trico interno ou informa\u00e7\u00e3o de campo magn\u00e9tico.<\/p><p>O microsc\u00f3pio eletr\u00f3nico de varrimento envia estes sinais detectados para o tubo de visualiza\u00e7\u00e3o, que apresenta as imagens SEM no ecr\u00e3. Os electr\u00f5es incidentes colidem com os \u00e1tomos do material da amostra e mudam de dire\u00e7\u00e3o, resultando numa dispers\u00e3o angular tridimensional.<\/p><p>O tamanho do \u00e2ngulo de dispers\u00e3o est\u00e1 correlacionado com a densidade e a espessura da amostra, pelo que podem ser formadas imagens com diferentes luzes e sombras. As imagens ser\u00e3o apresentadas nos dispositivos de imagem (tais como ecr\u00e3 fluorescente, filme e componentes de acoplamento fotossens\u00edveis) ap\u00f3s amplifica\u00e7\u00e3o e focagem. A ideia \u00e9 bombardear o metal pal\u00e1dio com um feixe de electr\u00f5es de alta energia para produzir raios X ou porque tem raios X caracter\u00edsticos em comprimentos de onda espec\u00edficos correspondentes aos elementos no pal\u00e1dio.<\/p><p>Posteriormente, os raios X caracter\u00edsticos s\u00e3o utilizados para iluminar amostras de uma determinada espessura a partir de diferentes \u00e2ngulos, sendo gerados raios de diferentes comprimentos de onda atrav\u00e9s do processo de difra\u00e7\u00e3o, que s\u00e3o recolhidos e apresentados no coletor.
