L'abondance du soufre, son faible co\u00fbt et l'absence de m\u00e9taux des terres rares (par rapport aux batteries au lithium traditionnelles qui n\u00e9cessitent souvent du cobalt et du nickel) font des batteries Li-S une orientation cl\u00e9 de la technologie des batteries de la prochaine g\u00e9n\u00e9ration.<\/p><p>Les batteries Li-S ont une capacit\u00e9 sp\u00e9cifique th\u00e9orique de 1675 mAh\/g et une densit\u00e9 \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique th\u00e9orique de 2600 Wh\/kg, ce qui est nettement sup\u00e9rieur aux batteries lithium-ion disponibles dans le commerce (200-300 Wh\/kg). Le processus se d\u00e9roule en deux \u00e9tapes : la d\u00e9charge et la charge.<\/p><p>Pendant la d\u00e9charge, le lithium m\u00e9tallique subit une oxydation, lib\u00e9rant des \u00e9lectrons et formant des ions lithium (Li\u207a), qui migrent vers la cathode. Ces ions r\u00e9agissent avec le soufre (S\u2088) pour produire des polysulfures de lithium (Li\u2082Sn, n=4~8). Au fur et \u00e0 mesure que la d\u00e9charge se poursuit, les polysulfures de lithium sont r\u00e9duits en sulfure de lithium (Li\u2082S\u2082 et Li\u2082S). La diff\u00e9rence de potentiel g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9e au cours de ce processus fournit l'\u00e9nergie de la batterie.<\/p><p>\u00c0 l'inverse, pendant la charge, une tension externe inverse la r\u00e9action. Le sulfure de lithium (Li\u2082S\u2082 et Li\u2082S) est oxyd\u00e9 en soufre (S\u2088) et le lithium m\u00e9tallique est red\u00e9pos\u00e9. Leur conductivit\u00e9 \u00e9lectronique extr\u00eamement faible (5,0\u00d710-\u00b3\u2070 S-cm-\u00b9) limite consid\u00e9rablement les performances des batteries Li-S \u00e0 haut d\u00e9bit.<\/p><p><strong>L'effet \"navette\"<\/strong>: Les polysulfures de lithium (Li\u2082Sn, n=3~8) produits pendant la d\u00e9charge se dissolvent dans l'\u00e9lectrolyte organique et migrent vers l'anode, provoquant des r\u00e9actions parasites. Cet \"effet de navette\" entra\u00eene une perte de mati\u00e8re active, une r\u00e9duction de l'efficacit\u00e9 \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique et une diminution de la dur\u00e9e de vie.<\/p><p><strong>D\u00e9charge Produit D\u00e9p\u00f4t<\/strong>: Pendant le cycle, le Li\u2082S et d'autres produits de d\u00e9charge se d\u00e9posent sur la surface de la structure conductrice ou se d\u00e9tachent compl\u00e8tement, ce qui entra\u00eene une perte de capacit\u00e9 irr\u00e9versible.<\/p><p><strong>Expansion\/contraction du volume<\/strong>: L'importante diff\u00e9rence de densit\u00e9 entre le soufre (2,07 g\/cm\u00b3) et le sulfure de lithium (1,66 g\/cm\u00b3), qui entra\u00eene une variation de volume allant jusqu'\u00e0 79% au cours des cycles de charge-d\u00e9charge, endommage la structure de la cathode, ce qui entra\u00eene le d\u00e9tachement du soufre de la structure conductrice et une d\u00e9gradation suppl\u00e9mentaire des performances.
