El proceso consta de dos etapas: descarga y carga.<\/p><p>Durante la descarga, el litio met\u00e1lico sufre oxidaci\u00f3n, liberando electrones y formando iones de litio (Li\u207a), que migran al c\u00e1todo. Estos iones reaccionan con el azufre (S\u2088) para producir polisulfuros de litio (Li\u2082Sn, n=4~8). A medida que contin\u00faa la descarga, los polisulfuros de litio se reducen a\u00fan m\u00e1s a sulfuro de litio (Li\u2082S\u2082 y Li\u2082S). La diferencia de potencial generada durante este proceso proporciona la salida de energ\u00eda de la bater\u00eda.<\/p><p>Por el contrario, durante la carga, una tensi\u00f3n externa invierte la reacci\u00f3n. El sulfuro de litio (Li\u2082S\u2082 y Li\u2082S) se oxida de nuevo a azufre (S\u2088) y el litio met\u00e1lico vuelve a depositarse. Este proceso restaura la capacidad de almacenamiento de energ\u00eda de la bater\u00eda.<\/p><p>Las bater\u00edas Li-S tienen una tensi\u00f3n de descarga te\u00f3rica de aproximadamente 2,287 V. Este \"efecto lanzadera\" provoca la p\u00e9rdida de material activo, reduce la eficiencia energ\u00e9tica y acorta la vida del ciclo.<\/p><p><strong>Descarga Deposici\u00f3n de productos<\/strong>: Durante los ciclos, el Li\u2082S y otros productos de descarga se depositan en la superficie de la estructura conductora o se desprenden por completo, provocando un deterioro irreversible de la capacidad.<\/p><p><strong>Expansi\u00f3n\/contracci\u00f3n del volumen<\/strong>: La importante diferencia de densidad entre el azufre (2,07 g\/cm\u00b3) y el sulfuro de litio (1,66 g\/cm\u00b3), que da lugar a un cambio de volumen de hasta 79% durante los ciclos de carga y descarga, da\u00f1a la estructura del c\u00e1todo, lo que provoca el desprendimiento del azufre de la estructura conductora y una mayor degradaci\u00f3n del rendimiento.
